ARTIST STATEMENT

I am an illustration artist who works every day at my home studio in Hartington, Ontario, just a short drive north of Kingston. My illustrations explore Ontario's natural beauty: the glistening lakes, the glorious outcroppings of the Canadian Shield, and of course the real stars of the show, the local critters!
In my artwork, I strive to show the peace and contentment of the natural world that blesses me here every day on Buffy Lake. Over the years, my work has evolved into an illustrative and magical style with a strong focus on composition and rhythmical line. All of my illustrations are rendered primarily in watercolour paint and graphite pencil on heavy cold pressed watercolour paper. Many also include coloured pencil, charcoal, gold leaf, gold ink and black ink.

An Ottawa native, Lisa completed a comprehensive three year art program at the High School of Commerce in her home town before continuing her studies at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary.
After trying life in Alberta for a few years, Ontario beckoned her home for good.She has made homes and studios in Calgary, Claresholm, Oshawa, Peterborough, Ottawa, and Hartington. The relationship between nature and art developed in 2016 when she settled into the woods overlooking little Buffy Lake in Hartington. Lisa continues to pursue her passion for illustrating and furthering her love of the natural world by exploring the lakes and mixed forests. Lisa is active in the local art community where you can find her work at local art fairs, galleries and several boutiques around Eastern Ontario.
